Our tips for putting your best skin forward this new year!
We are really excited about our new vegan enzyme body peels! Enzyme peels are a natural way to gently exfoliate for healthy, vibrant, glowing skin. But before we dive deep on enzyme peels, let's talk about exfoliation!
Why Exfoliate
We exfoliate for a bunch of reasons, perhaps none more important than the scintillating smell of our scrubs. Okay, maybe that's not the most important reason. Really we exfoliate because it cleans our pores deeply and helps keep them open. Rather than closing around particulates and oils, when we exfoliate our skin stays open and balanced, allowing our natural process of skin cell regeneration to thrive. Ultimately, that’s what we want, right? To help promote the natural processes of the body that allow us to be at our best.
Exfoliating is important for maintaining healthy, even, beautiful skin. But there are a lot of different ways to exfoliate. We have sugar and salt scrubs (in a wide variety of mouth-watering, bakery-inspired flavors). But we’re also really excited to be introducing our new enzyme peels called our Yogurt Body Peel!
Quick note: no dairy was harmed in the making of this peel! In fact, this is an entirely vegan treat! We named it Yogurt Peel because of its beautiful creamy texture and color. And because sweet food-inspired body care treats are kind of our thing…
What's a Peel
There are two different types of peels: chemical and enzyme.
Chemical peels are a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure, meaning it helps remove the skin spots and wrinkles. The occurs when the chemical agents interact with the skin cells, helping promote pH balance and the chemical makeup of the skin cells. Chemical peels are a treatment you can receive at a spa. It is something to consider with your doctors if you have more serious skin conditions.
Enzyme peels are composed of fruit enzymes and have many of the same results as chemical peels without the harshness and downtime. Plus, they are often made with natural ingredients, like our vegan ones! Similar to a chemical peel, enzyme peels exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells while nourishing the new layer of skin it leaves behind. According to Dr. Hadley King, an NYC-based dermatologist, “these enzymes help to break down proteins—including keratin proteins in the outer layer of the skin. This helps dead skin cells slough off, leaving the skin smoother and softer, with decreased discolorations.”
Enzyme peels are your natural skin regenerating choice! Compared with chemical peels or laser resurfacing, enzyme peels use real fruit enzymes to help break down dead skin cells without burning or killing any living cells in the process. Similar to an exfoliator, you simply put a small portion onto wet skin, massage, and rinse! It IS that easy.
